About this program
Austin Montessori School is the oldest Montessori institution in Austin, Texas, founded in 1967 by Donna Bryant Goertz with just seventeen children in an abandoned World War II army barracks. Today, it has grown into a thriving educational community serving approximately 350 students across three campus locations in Austin. The school's mission centers on guiding each child toward their full and unknown potential while cultivating compassion, respect, independence, belonging, freedom, and self-discipline. What distinguishes Austin Montessori School is its commitment to high-fidelity Montessori pedagogy, with accreditation from both the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI)—the only organization founded and endorsed by Dr. Maria Montessori herself—and the Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS). The school employs 70 dedicated faculty and staff members, including 26 educators trained by AMI, ensuring authentic Montessori education that honors each child's authentic nature while nurturing reverence for the natural order of the universe. The school is particularly notable for operating the only Montessori Adolescent Program in Austin.
