About this program
Earthroots Field School is a nature-based educational organization founded in 2005 by a small group of homeschool families in Orange County, California, under the guidance of Jodi Levine-Wright. Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the organization emerged from a community need for environmentally progressive, hands-on nature connection classes for children and adults. The school serves families, schools, and colleges throughout Southern California with outdoor experiential learning programs. Earthroots' mission centers on connecting people to the natural world through direct experience and ecoliteracy—the understanding of natural systems that make life on Earth possible. The organization maintains Big Oak Canyon, a 39-acre property located on ancestral Acjachemen and Tongva territory in Silverado Canyon, California, where they conduct habitat restoration work and many of their programs. Their philosophy embraces nature as the primary teacher, offering enriching outdoor experiences that empower participants across generations. Monthly volunteer days allow community members to tend the land while assembling nature kits and enjoying the canyon's beauty.
