About this program
Little Earthlings Forest School is an all-outdoor, child-led preschool program located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Founded in Autumn 2017, this innovative educational model combines the foundational principles of European forest schooling—which has been well-established in Denmark since the 1950s—with core child development and early childhood educational practices adapted specifically for American public lands. The school's unique approach prioritizes experiential learning in nature, operating across multiple outdoor locations including Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, Sutro Heights, Land's End, and Fort Miley. As a small program, Little Earthlings Forest School offers responsive, attentive care while following the SFUSD calendar. The hybrid educational model has evolved over eight years to create a distinct approach that honors children's natural curiosity while supporting their development in outdoor environments throughout the changing seasons.
