About this program
Little Sticks Forest School is an 'Outstanding' Ofsted-rated, fully outdoor forest school operating two sites in the Greater Manchester area since April 2021. The original location sits on the grounds of Aspull Rugby Club in Wigan, while the second site opened in May 2024 at Greenslate Community Farm in Billinge. Founded by Danielle Field after ten years of primary school teaching, the school was created as an alternative to results-focused traditional education, offering a developmentally appropriate approach centered on the forest school ethos. What makes Little Sticks unique is its complete commitment to outdoor learning year-round, with children spending their entire day in woodland environments rather than attending occasional outdoor sessions. The school embraces child-led play and exploration, allowing children to interact freely with nature, use real tools, cook over campfires, and manage woodland areas. The Greenslate Farm location offers additional experiences with on-site animals and the Strawbale Cafe, enriching the natural learning environment.
