About this program
Nomad Middle School is a mobile, project-based educational program located in San Francisco, California, designed for adventure seekers, dreamers, and doers. Positioned as "a project-based school for visionaries, innovators, makers, and storytellers," the school transforms the world into a classroom through thematic journeys that lead students through academic content and into deep exploration of big ideas. What makes Nomad unique is its adventurous, experiential approach to learning. Students regularly venture out on excursions around the Bay Area, working with local experts and engaging directly with their community. The school embraces a "yes" philosophy—saying yes to wild ideas, play, trying new things, and the unknown. From graffiti art on school buses to building wind turbines, sewing quilts, rock climbing in the Sierras, calculating beach trash data, and publishing novels, Nomad encourages students to pursue ambitious, hands-on projects. The school's physical location is at 2592 Folsom Street in San Francisco, serving as a home base for their mobile learning adventures.
