About this program
Rooted & Free Nature School offers life-changing, nature-based early learning in partnership with Camp Kirchenwald, creating a unique forest learning environment that draws children out of the confines of a fast-paced world and into meaningful connection with the natural world. The program's mission centers on empowering children through place-based, experiential, and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that grow a child's mind, body, and spirit while fostering a lifelong love, respect, and understanding of nature. The school leverages Camp Kirchenwald's amazing natural resources—leaves to toss, boulders to climb, logs to roll, and streams to explore—to create deep and lasting connections with each other and the environment. While the majority of time is spent outdoors in this enticing natural setting, a cozy cabin provides shelter for even the most adventurous kids. Founded by parents, teachers, and nature lovers, the program puts into practice insights gained from classroom leadership experience, family explorations, and research on best educational practices.
