About this program
Santa Cruz County Outdoor Science School offers a unique, hands-on learning experience in the natural world. Sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, this 'school without walls or desks' allows students to live on-site for four or five days, fully immersing themselves in the outdoors. Guided by their classroom teachers, students spend their days in forests, creeks, chaparral, and meadows, using their five senses to engage directly with their surroundings. The program focuses primarily on ecology, helping students understand the relationship between living things and their environment. A key goal is to nurture a deeper concern and sense of responsibility for the environment, turning participants into ambassadors for the natural world. The school is proud to be certified by the California Outdoor School Association (COSA).
