About this program
Starseed Community School is a Waldorf-based community school in Muizenberg, Cape Town, South Africa, created in 2015 by parents seeking inclusive, locally-rooted education. The school uses the village of Muizenberg itself as an extended classroom, incorporating the library, beach, vlei, mountain, and community gardens into daily learning. The school's philosophy centers on educating through love, with the wellbeing and sacredness of childhood at the heart of everything. Learning spaces are intentionally designed to encourage exploration, questioning traditional classroom approaches in favor of indoor and outdoor environments that spark curiosity. Deeply rooted in South African context, Starseed is committed to decolonizing education and celebrating the wisdom, cultures, and ideas of the local community. The school acknowledges South Africa's continuing challenges with racism and inequality, actively working to create a deliberately diverse community where everyone belongs.
