About this program
Bumi Kecil is a nature-immersed, child-led community learning hub on the island of Gili Air, off the coast of Lombok, Indonesia. Nestled among coconut palms and a short walk from the beach, it offers a unique island-based educational experience for children ages 3-14. The school's philosophy blends Reggio Emilia-inspired inquiry, Montessori independence, and place-based learning unique to island life. Rather than a traditional school, Bumi Kecil describes itself as a community learning hub where families, educators, and children co-create meaningful learning experiences rooted in respect for the child, the community, and the environment. Gili Air is reachable by fast boat from Bali (1.5-2 hours) or a short boat ride from Lombok (15 minutes), making it accessible for traveling families exploring Southeast Asia.
