About this program
Nurture the Nature Forest School offers an immersive outdoor education experience in Scarborough, Ontario, where children learn and play in the natural environment of Morningside Park. Founded in 2022 by Brittany Gillingham, a licensed Lead Forest School Practitioner and certified Therapeutic Skills Practitioner for Outdoor Leaders, the school was born from years of research demonstrating the powerful impact of nature-based learning on child development. Located at 390 Morningside Avenue, the program operates in a "classroom without walls," blending outdoor education with therapeutic support in a village-style learning environment. The school's unique approach combines guidance from experienced educators with visiting specialists and community members who share real-world skills, from woodworking and gardening to storytelling and land-based knowledge. This creates a rich, sensory environment where children build resilience, confidence, and a deep connection with the natural world while developing independence and a strong sense of self.
