About this program
Founded in 1997, Waldorf School of Bend is an independent, non-profit school offering holistic, developmentally aligned education for children from toddler through 8th grade in Central Oregon. The school provides a screen-free learning environment where childhood is protected and curiosity is nurtured through meaningful human connection. Rooted in Rudolf Steiner's educational philosophy, the program emphasizes whole-child development through rich storytelling, purposeful movement, hands-on artistry, and nature-based experiences. The school's mission centers on inspiring curious minds, compassionate hearts, and capable hands while nurturing independent thought, purposeful action, and heartfelt service to the world. What distinguishes this program is its intentional resistance to test-driven pedagogy and screen-mediated learning, instead offering a bridge to vital developmental processes through experiential education. The diverse community shares a belief that this approach to education is not a luxury but a necessity in today's rapidly changing world.
