About this program
Steward Outdoor School is a K–6 private day school where nature serves as both classroom and teacher. Located on a remarkable 740-acre campus at Incarnation Center, students have access to diverse natural environments including forests, streams, lakes, and fields that transform daily learning into hands-on discovery. The school's philosophy centers on developing critical thinking through direct observation, exploration, and inquiry in the natural world. What sets Steward apart is its commitment to experiential education where curiosity becomes action. Students test ideas, gather evidence, and solve problems collaboratively in authentic settings rather than traditional classroom environments. Most of the school day unfolds outdoors, with forest trails, open fields, and seasonal changes shaping the daily rhythm. The approach creates active, memorable, and meaningful learning experiences rooted in discovery, collaboration, and connection to the natural world, helping students think independently, see relationships, and build knowledge that lasts beyond memorization.
