About this program

The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre is a unique overnight environmental education program that has been serving California's Central Coast for over 50 years. Operated by Los Padres Council BSA, the program transforms traditional classroom learning into immersive outdoor experiences through 4-day, 3-night residential sessions at their Santa Barbara County campus located at 2680 Highway 154. What makes this program distinctive is its hands-on approach to environmental and STEM education, allowing students to explore beyond classroom walls in an enriching natural setting. The school focuses on self-discovery, scientific exploration, skill development, and building lasting friendships through outdoor activities, hiking, and nature immersion. The facility has undergone significant restoration efforts, featuring newly built temperature-controlled dormitories and modern amenities designed specifically for group educational experiences.
