About this program
Camp KEEP (Kern Environmental Education Program) is a residential outdoor science program that has been creating transformative experiences for students for over 50 years. Located on California's stunning Central Coast, the program operates at two distinct sites: KEEP Ocean at Montana de Oro State Park in Los Osos and KEEP by the Sea at El Rancho El Chorro in San Luis Obispo. Both locations offer immersive week-long residential experiences where students live and learn in natural coastal environments. What sets Camp KEEP apart is its certification by the California Outdoor School Association (COSA) and its alignment with Next Generation Science Standards. The program bridges classroom learning with hands-on field experiences, allowing naturalist educators to bring science concepts to life through experiential activities in authentic natural settings. Beyond academic learning, Camp KEEP emphasizes personal growth, teaching students responsibility, respect for others, and environmental stewardship through shared living experiences that foster lasting memories and deep connections to the natural world.
